I don’t know if he specializes in PCOS but Eli Adashi, who is the head of the reproductive endocrinology program at the University of Maryland in Baltimore and the co-editor of a brand new two volume textbook on reproductive endocrinology, is one of the leaders in the field and is the co-author of the lead article in this month’s National RESOLVE newsletter about PCOS. You might want to pick up a copy of the newsletter and consider making a consultation appointment with him. Even if he turns out not to be what you are looking for, he might be able to refer you to another specialist.

Today, I too was dumped by my doctor. I’m new to this group and it was this last humiliating experience that sent me in search of support. This was the third endocrine doc that I’ve been to. The first one did my half assed work up (I was in a hmo & he was only doing as many things as they’d pay for). After failing to diagnose, he labeled me PCO, told me to watch my weight, and that I’d never have kids. There was nothing to be done about my facial hair growth which is as bad as any mans, I’d just have to shave & live with it. The second doc was a Endocinologist GYN. Impressed? So was I. The man cares only about infertility. period. He has the bedside manner and compassion of a lump of clay. His final word aprox a year ago was to have my ovaries removed. Thanks but no thanks. Doc number three started out promisingly. She thought I may have been misdiagnosed. I get periods monthly & have low testosterone levels, but still grow this facial & body hair & am begining I fear to have male pattern baldness. She thought I had adrenal hyperplasia & put me on hold, pending speaking to doc #2 for my old test results. Now she calls me today, and tells me she thinks that I should go back to doc number 2, as he is far better versed with this than she. I could scream!!!! Does ANYONE know any doctors who SPECIALIZE in PCO in Maryland? Endo…@aol.com
